Direct your negative energy into wearing your facemask – Afia Pokuaa jabs critics

Broadcast Journalist with Despite Media, Afia Pokuaa has hit back at critics who say she lied about the Health Minister’s reaction to reports that he was resting at the University of Ghana Medical Centre

Afia Pokuaa Saturday after reports were rife in some sections of the media that the Health Minister had tested positive for the disease said she contacted the Minister who said otherwise.

According to her, the Minister told her he’s resting at the University of Ghana Medical Centre

“Spoke to the minister of health. He says he’s fine and doesn’t have COVID but only needed rest and his usual medication.” She posted on her Facebook page.

But the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo in his eleventh address to the country confirmed that the Minister had contracted the virus and said he’s stable and responding to treatment.

“Let us also wish our hard working minister of health, Hon. Kweku Agyemang-Manu, a speedy recovery from the virus which he contracted in the line of duty. And he is in a stable condition,” he said.

Afia Pokuaa has come under severe attack on social media for propagating falsehood about the Minister and have been asked to provide an audio to prove that she spoke to him as she reported.

Reacting to the barrage of attacks, she posted a screenshot of her call log confirming that she received a call from the Minister after several attempts to reach him.

She called on Ghanaians to channel their energies in criticizing her to wearing facemasks because that’s the imperative at the moment.

She said “Called the minister a couple of times without answer to confirm the story that was making rounds. This was his return call to me. Let us use the same energy to WEAR OUR MASKS and protect ourselves”.

Akufo-Addo Will Be One Term President – Lawyer

Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe, Lead Counsel for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the case involving the Electoral Commission and the opposition party, has chastised the Akufo-Addo government for messing up all the sectors in the country especially the banking sector.

This he claims, has left many Ghanaians unemployed, as a result of bad leadership.

Lawyer Tamakloe alleged that the current administration after collapsing several universal banks intends to move the Ghana Police Service from CAP30 to SSNIT when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo wins his second term.

Commenting on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, he asserted that President Akufo-Addo has within three years collapsed 7 universal banks, 300 microfinance companies and several fund management institutions.

To him, it was unwise on the part of the Akufo-Addo government to collapse the various banks and other financial institutions and spend over 16 billion Ghana Cedis to resolve 9 billion Ghana Cedis problem.

If you are wise, will you do this? You have spent over 16 billion to resolve a 9 billion worth of problems in the banking sector and as we speak, people are in the house jobless. If directors and shareholders are the problems, you can deal with them but the fruits of their works can remain”, he slammed.

He held the view that if an election is conducted today, President Akufo-Addo will lose and become a one-term President; because of especially the banking sector reforms.

“I am telling you that if we are going to the polls today, Nana Addo will be a one-term President…we have given you the power and used it to collapse businesses. Ghanaians are not fools. The power of the Governor to close banks is drawn from Act 920; who passed the law? The truth is that Nana has come to collapse businesses,” he pointed out.

Edudzi Tamakloe further stated that if President Akufo-Addo claims to have initiated massive developmental projects and is scared of losing the 2020 elections, then the NPP should opt for using the current voter’s register for this year’s general election.

He challenged the Akufo-Addo led NPP government to go by the same standard if the party believes it had 1 million votes in the 2016 and even intends to increase the votes to 2 million in the 2020 general election.

If ‘Stupid’ People Vote For “Useless Gov’t”, Everyone Suffers – Sam Pyne Throw shots at Ghanaians

Ashanti Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged all Ghanaians of eligible voting age to participate in the upcoming mass registration exercise by the Electoral Commission (EC).

Sam Pyne advised the citizenry not to pay heed to the comments by the leadership of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to abstain from registering their names.

NDC National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, delivering a speech at a ceremony marking the party’s 28th anniversary on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, charged the members to reject the call to participate in the mass voters registration exercise scheduled to begin on June 30 this year.

“We say no to the new register and even if Parliament passes the legislation we will not accept it. We are not just against it because they will not accept the old voter card but because the whole atmosphere in the country is not conducive,” he said.

The party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama also warned the EC saying ”as leader of the NDC, I wish to serve notice that we shall do all our parts to ensure that our country remains peaceful and that the electoral process proceeds smoothly, but let nobody assume that we will accept the results of flawed elections”.

Responding to the NDC on Peace FM’s ”Kokrokoo”, Sam Pyne sent a strong message to Ghanaians who don’t want to partake in the registration exercise emphasizing that ”if stupid people go and vote for a useless government, they will enact useless laws for you the wise person but should there be a good government to establish the right laws, you will equally benefit. So, from 30th June, everybody should go and write their names”.

JUST IN: Five die at Okaikoi North in Tuesday’s downpour

Five persons, including a baby, lost their lives in the Okaikoi North Constituency, a downpour four-hour in the early hours of Tuesday. About 300 people have also been displaced, property estimated at thousands of cedis have been lost. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Achimota Hospital and Lapaz Community Hospital morgues.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Fuseini Issah told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that the blocking of waterways by squatters and the disposal of refuse into drains could be blamed for the floods. He said it was time residents became responsible and helped the authorities checked those who were recalcitrant to bring sanity to the community.

To prevent the recurrence of the tragedy, Mr Issah said the public must desist from throwing garbage into drains and avoid building on waterways to allow the free flow of water. Mr Mahmud Osman, the Assemblyman for the Akweteman Electoral Area, said most houses in the area, especially those within the low lying settlements, were flooded.

He was, therefore, coordinating with the Municipal Chief Executive and the MP to see how best to support the victims. “It is unfortunate how a number of squatters have found their way into this area, he said, adding that the Assembly would meet on the issue to find an amicable solution. The GNA observed victims of the floods searching through the ruins to see what they could salvage.

Most of the kiosks inhabited by squatters were washed away leaving the inhabitants with just the clothes they had on and their mobile phones. They have, therefore, appealed to the authorities to go to their aid.

A sprinter bus was also carried by the floods but it got lodged in a big drain, and was later pulled out by a team of police and officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation. A driver’s mate, Kwame Effah, who was sleeping in the bus, expressed gratitude to God, amidst tears for saving his life.

He explained that he was able to jump out the moment he realised the bus was sinking as the concrete slab on the bridge on which it had parked caved in. Ms Denise Sagoe- Brock, a resident, said she came out around 2:00 PM to realise the water was almost at her doorstep and about to enter her room.

“I rushed inside and I was able to gather all important documents and gadgets onto my bed, after which I stood on the bed clutching some of the things.” Madam Esther Nartey, another resident, said she and her family had to run to higher grounds for safety.

“I carried my eight month-old baby at my back and carried my five-year old daughter on the shoulder, while my husband carried my ailing mother as we struggled to find a safe ground. I thank God for saving us. To Him we’re most grateful,” she said.
