The former footballer writer has squashed calls that the Kurt Okraku-led administration has not done enough to alleviate its members.
Below is the full text of Shardow’s blog on Facebook page in his response to critics of the Ghana FA:
”It is very clear that majority of football clubs in Ghana are in grave need of support especially in these difficult Covid-19 times. However to suggest this Ghana Football Association administration is insensitive to these needs as its being alleged in some quarters is overly harsh and factually incorrect.
”To the contrary, there is enough evidence that this Ghana FA administration has demonstrated its readiness to support its members in various forms.
Approximately US$ 400,000 from the US$ 1m received from Globacom was shared amongst Premier, Division One, RFA’s and Women Premier League clubs before the commencement of the season. Due to recent development, this support which was initially meant to be a loan facility extended to clubs against any future inflow, has been completely wiped off for clubs in Division One and Women Premier while 50% has been written off for Premier League clubs. Ghc 300,000 was paid to settle part of the debt owed the Referees Association of Ghana for services rendered over the years. GHc113,370 was paid to settle part of the debt owed the Match Commissioners Association of Ghana. Ghc 100,000 was shared amongst the ten Regional Football Association (Ghc 10,000 each) to support their operations. Registration cards for Premier and Division One League clubs was subsidized by 80% while being made free for all juvenile clubs.Logistical support to clubs through the provision of 40 footballs to clubs in the Premier League, 30 to clubs in Division One, 30 to Women’s Premier League clubs and 1000 footballs shared amongst the 10 RFA’s. Assuming using conservative cost of a football at 80 cedis, it means Ghc 57,600 was expended on clubs in the Premier League, Ghc 115,200 to Division One League clubs, Ghc 38,400 to Women Premier League clubs, Ghc 80,000 to RFA’s. Totaling Ghc 291,200.
These are some of the direct interventions made by the current administration I can readily recall. Mind you, this current administration has been in office for barely six months.
Of course we’re nowhere near the desired point and clubs may be legitimate in making further demands. However let it not be told that our association has done absolutely nothing to alleviate the plight of its members since assuming office.
Knowing the passion with which leadership is pursuing all leads in trying to secure more support for members and judging by its recent history, I’m left in no doubt at all that given the opportunity of more resources with our continued prayers and support further support will be extended to members.”

The rapper poured out his pains after the female rapper Eno barony releases a diss song tittle “Argument done” to Sista Afia which Eno barony thrown shot to Medikal because of the rumor going round that Medikal was the one who wrote Sista Afia’s lines for her.
He wrotes
“4years ago Eno linked up for a feature, gave her a verse and pulled up to shoot the video when called without charging a penny, never expected her to disrespect me in anyway, especially when I haven’t wronged you. This is why people don’t do good sometimes i guess.”
Ghana’s electoral management body has said the minority leader Haruna Iddrisulied to the public, saying the Electoral Commission has never received Personal protective equipment from the government.
EC’s response comes after Haruna Iddrisu questioned the commitment and competence of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa.
According to Mr Iddrisu, the EC on several occasions brought to Parliament “defective” legislative instruments seeking parliamentary attention.
“She sometimes also comes to us as if she is running an NGO. Let her be reminded that she is running the Electoral Commission of Ghana. A state institution expected to be independent,” Mr. Iddrisu said during a press conference on Thursday morning.
Mr Iddrisu also questioned the priorities of the government and the EC amid the coronavirus pandemic because of the allocation of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
“It is absolutely troubling and shocking that in the face of such a pandemic, our Government chooses to supply PPEs to officials of the Electoral Commission when doctors, nurses and other frontline health care workers are crying for PPEs.”
However, in an official response, the EC said: “The Commission has not stated anywhere that it has received Personal and Protective Equipment (PPE) from the government as stated by the Minority leader during the press conference. For the avoidance of doubt, the Commission has not received any protective equipment from the government. The Commission finds it troubling that the Leader of the Minority Party in Parliament to put out information of this nature without substantiating its authenticity.”
Below is the full statement by the EC
EC RESPONDS TO THE MINORITY LEADER’S ACCUSATIONS
The Electoral Commission has noted with grave concern, comments made by the Minority Leader, Hon Haruna Iddrisu, during a press conference held on 7th May, 2020 that sought to attack the integrity and mandate of Electoral Commission as well as the creation of an erroneous impression in the minds of the general public on its attitude as far as the COVID – 19 Pandemic is concerned
Hon Haruna Iddrisu is reported to have registered the displeasure of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the management of the COVID- 19 Pandemic by the Commission in the performance of its official duties, as well as its unchanged stance to compile a new Voters, Register with a new Voter Management System
The Commission has not stated anywhere that it has received Personal and Protective Equipment (PPE) from the government as stated by the Minority leader during the press conference. For the avoidance of doubt, the Commission has not received any protective equipment from the government. The Commission finds it troubling that the Leader of the Minority Party in Parliament to put out information of this nature without substantiating its authenticity.
The EC would like to state that since the outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic, it has taken concrete steps in adhering to the rules and regulations regarding the protocols spelt out by the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health and therefore has not violated any safety protocols the discharge of its duties
The Commission takes collective decisions on all electoral processes in conformity with the country’s republican constitution, it is therefore equally worrying that a statement will be made to suggest otherwise with the ultimate goal of tarnishing the image of key officials of the Commission
As stated Article 46 of the 1992 Constitution, the EC would like to reiterate that it shall not be subject to the direction or control of any person or authority in the performance of its functions, except as provided for in the Constitution or any other law consistent with it.
All stakeholders are hereby reminded that plans are far advanced for the compilation of a new Voters Register with a new Voter Management System for the upcoming 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections. The Commission is, however, sensitive to the Current state of affairs due to the COVID 19 pandemic, and will abide by the necessary precautions and safety Protocols in the execution of its mandate when it deems it appropriate to begin the compilation of the register
The general public is being cautioned to disregard any fictitious election timetable and other letters circulating on social media purporting to have emanated from the Commission. The Commission wishes to call on all well-meaning Ghanaians to cooperate with it for the success of the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry has asked the Member of Parliament(MP) for Bolgatanga Central to apologize to the Senior Minister over comments he made in relation to the UNI-PASS contract.
Mr. Carlos Ahenkorah describes the statement, purported to have been made by Mr Isaac Adongo, attributing complications in operations at the Tema Port to Mr. Yaw Osafo-Maafo, as reckless and therefore must be retracted.
The Deputy Minister made this call on Wednesday in a rejoinder copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in which he sought to set the record straight with regards to the coming into force of the new Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS).
The Deputy Minister, who was also the MP for Tema West and a member of the Joint Inter-Ministerial Committee that saw the implementation of the new system, said that holding Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo responsible for what happened at the Tema Port last Tuesday would be unfortunate and a calculated attempt to malign “an honest politician who is respected by both sides of the House.”
The Deputy Minister explained that the newly signed trade facilitation agreement between the Ministry of Trade and Industry and South Korea Customs UNIPASS International Agency (CUPIA)/Ghana Link was a government decision.
Furtherance to that, the Tema West MP informed that Cabinet set up a Joint Inter-Ministerial Oversight Committee (JIMOC) chaired by the Senior Minister to oversee the implementation of the ICUMS, and that the Senior Minister had diligently discharged his duties accordingly.
“But for the Senior Minister, we would not be where we are today with the reinstatement of calm in our clearance processes. What happened in the port last Tuesday was reminiscent of a typical system deployment which had done well in other collections like the various entry points and the Port of Takoradi during piloting but challenged at the final full implementation for various reasons,” Mr. Ahenkorah added.
The Deputy Trade Minister indicated that every Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) system newly deployed experienced difficulties and showed significant “left outs” that only needed fixing.
“You never get a newly introduced system from the start without any operational hitches. It happened at the onset of GCNet in 2002 and West Blue in 2015, but these problems were surmounted with time to make the system near-seamless,” Mr. Ahenkorah asserted.
That, notwithstanding, the Deputy Minister informed that the problems identified during the piloting had been corrected and the system was ready to come into full force at the Tema Port, observing that the challenge encountered was not a system challenge but rather an operational challenge.
He said that to suggest the Senior Minister had a personal interest in UNIPASS showed how uninformed Mr. Adongo was. “The Senior Minister’s intervention rather calmed nerves and brokered peace and understanding amongst all stakeholders with a resultant resumption of operations at the port,” he added.
In assuring the public of the efficacy of the UNIPASS system, the Deputy Minister told of how UNIPASS undertook feasibility studies for Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) in 2015 on a single-window operation.
Mr. Ahenkorah, therefore, assured that the new system would rather enhance fast processing and quick reconciliation of documents unlike the previous multiple systems and improve revenue mobilization and security at the ports.
The Electoral Commission has said no individual or authority can direct or control it as far as carrying out its constitutional mandate is concerned.
In a statement bearing the signature of the election management body’s Acting Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Sylvia Annor, the EC said it has “noted, with grave concern, comments made by Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu during a press conference held on 7 May 2020 that sought to attack the integrity and mandate of the Electoral Commission as well as the creation of an erroneous impression in the minds of the general public on its attitude as far as the COVID-19 pandemic is concerned”.
Among other things, Mr Iddrisu told the media that EC Chair Jean Mensa, “sometimes, also comes to us as if she is running an NGO”, adding: “Let her be reminded that she is running the Electoral Commission of Ghana – a state institution expected to be independent”.
He also said: “The Constitution provides for a terminal end of the mandate of the President and Members of Parliament after every four years and presidential and parliamentary elections ought to be conducted and conducted by the availability and presence of a credible voter register, which is the responsibility of that Commission. No excuse will be accepted.”
“The fact that it is not ready means somebody is incompetent or somebody is not up to the particular task,” Mr Iddrisu added.
The Minority Leader also questioned the priorities of the government and the EC as the coronavirus festers.
“It is absolutely troubling and shocking that in the face of such a pandemic, our government chooses to supply PPE to officials of the Electoral Commission when doctors, nurses and other frontline healthcare workers are crying for PPE”, the Tamale South MP said.
“All these come at a time the EC’s plan to begin its infamous and life-threatening registration in June this year, has been exposed after a presentation the EC made to ECOWAS leaked. It is worth noting that the EC’s timetable, as presented to ECOWAS, remains unknown to Parliament and opposition political parties,” Mr Iddrisu added.
In its response to the Minority, however, the EC said Mr Iddrisu “is reported to have registered the displeasure of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the management of the COVID-19pandemic by the Commission in the performance of its official duties as well as its unchanged stance to compile a new voter register with a new voter management system.”
The Commission said contrary to the claims of the Minority Leader, “it has not stated anywhere that it has received personal protective equipment (PPE) from the government”, stressing: “For the avoidance of doubt, the Commission has not received any protective equipment from the government.”
The Commission, therefore, said it “finds it troubling that the leader of the Minority party in parliament will put out information of this nature without substantiating its authenticity.”
The EC also denied claims that it has been disregarding the COVID-19 safety protocols while carrying out its duties.
“The EC would like to state that since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has taken concrete steps in adhering to the rules and regulations regarding the protocols spelt out by the Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health, and, therefore, has not violated any safety protocols in the discharge of its duties.
“The Commission takes collective decisions on all electoral processes in conformity with the country’s republican Constitution. It is, therefore, equally worrying that a statement would be made to suggest otherwise with the ultimate aim of tarnishing the image of key officials of the Commission”.
“As stated in Article 36 of the 1992 Constitution, the EC would like to reiterate that it shall not be subject to the direction or control of any person or authority in the performance of its functions, except as provided for in the Constitution or any other law consistent with it.
“All stakeholders are hereby reminded that plans are far advanced for the compilation of new voters register with a new voter management system for the upcoming 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections. The Commission is, however, sensitive to the current state of affairs due to the COVID-19 pandemic and will abide by the necessary precautions and safety protocols in the execution of its mandate when it deems it appropriate to begin the compilation of the register.”
“The general public is being cautioned to disregard any fictitious election timetable and other letters circulating on social media purporting to have emanated from the Commission. The Commission wishes to call on all well-meaning Ghanaians to cooperate with it for the success of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections”.
