Render Some Apologies To Yaw Lucas—Kofi Annan Gh

Takoradi based disk Jockey and a blogger Stephen Kofi Annan known as Kofi Annan Gh or Dj nameless says organizers of Mask up virtual concert and Mexx tv needs to release or render an apology to Bernard Eshun Lucas popularly known as “Yaw Lucas” for not allowing him to perform that day because of Nose mask.

According to him., he feels so sad and disappointed in the organizers of mask up virtual concert following the unpleasant scene that happened on Thursday 28 of May 2020 at takoradi mall between the organizers and Bernard Eshun Lucas know as Yaw Lucas.

He posted this on his Facebook page.

He writes

The organizers of Mask 😷 up virtual concert and Mexx tv needs to release or render an apology to Bernard Eshun Lucas popularly known as “Yaw Lucas” for not allowing him to perform that day because of Nose mask.

◦ I think the organizers should have provide a branded nose mask to be shared among all the artists, mc, djs and the technical team to beautify or give more thumbs up to the event.

Again, Yaw Lucas was not wrong for pointing out those who were not wearing the nose mask. How can organizers creating awareness on the importance of wearing masks refuse to wear theirs? Its doesn’t sound matured.

An artist stops whatever he’s doing, came to perform for FREE just because of his region and you just sacked or did not allow him to perform just because of nose mask. So my question to the organizers is if it was to be some top artist from ghana will you guys stop him from performing?

Put some respect on artist brand.

Tension at Gbetsile as land guards storm prayer camp

There was confusion at the Paniel Prayer Camp at Gbetsile in the Greater Accra Region on Friday, May 29, 2020, after land guards stormed the area.

According to some residents and members of the prayer camp, the land guards numbering about 30 allegedly fired warning shots as they levelled the land with earth-moving equipment.

Some of the residents now say they fear for their lives following the incident.

“For the prayer camp; the urinal, manhole, and a whole lot were destroyed. They have pulled a lot of mango trees down. I think someone is trying to cause tension here and we are not happy. We have been to the police station to lodge a complaint and they have come to inspect the place. We are yet to see the action of the police but we are pleading with them to bring the perpetrators to book,” one of them said to Citi News.

“Something is seriously going on here and so we are pleading with the government to come to our aid. For us, we will not allow anyone to work on this site because this prayer camp has been here for a very long time.”

This is not the first time there is unrest in the community within the Kpone Katamanso Municipality over the activities of land guards.

Located off the Tema Akosombo Highway, Gbetisle is a few minutes drive from the Central Business area of Tema.

Due to the low cost of land and the proximity of communities located at the peripheries of Tema to the industrial hub of Tema, most workers who seek to own their own properties have no choice than to lease lands in communities such as Gbetsile and its environs.

This, however, has come at a high cost to many of these innocent developers as they are met with a series of challenges including land guard attacks and fraudulent land sales.

2020 polls: Majority Leader pushes for EC to brief Parliament on June 9

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu is pushing for the Electoral Commission (EC) to appear before Parliament on June 9 to brief the House on its preparedness for the 2020 general elections, instead of June 16 as requested by the Commission.

“…according to them[EC], they will be able to avail themselves on the 16th [June]. I thought that will be too distant given the issues that are coming up for consideration,” Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, said in Parliament.

He added that he is “strongly urging them to avail themselves on the 9th… we’ve not been able to sort it out even though I am strongly sure they should be here on that day.”

The EC will begin the voter registration exercise in the last week of June 2020.

The commission has outlined its plan for the exercise which is expected to last till July 2020 across 33,367 polling stations.

In line with the law, political parties are to be informed of the exact date not later than 21 days before the start of the exercise after the Constitutional Instrument (C.I.) which is currently before Parliament matures.

The Minority in Parliament has been calling on the Commission to appear before the House to provide updates on its plans for the 2020 election.

The Minority caucus is also pushing for the rejection of the Electoral Commission’s move to make the Ghana Card and Passport the only forms of identification for registration onto the electoral roll.

Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, filed a motion to compel Parliament to reject the EC’s request for such amendments to be made to the laws governing elections in Ghana.

The EC presented the Public Election (Amendment) regulation, 2020 (C.I. 126) to Parliament to amend C.I 91 in order to change the identification requirements passed in 2016.

According to a Notice of Motion filed by Mr. Ayariga, the Bawku Central legislator wants Parliament to reject “the Public Election (Registration of Voters) (Amendments) Regulations 2020 (C.I. 126) pursuant to Article 11 (7) (c) of the Constitution of Ghana 1992.”

Court sets June 26 as judgment day for Kennedy Agyapong – Kweku Baako

Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul-Malik Kweku Baako has revealed that June 26, 2020, has been set by the Accra High Court for pronouncement of judgment in a defamatory case he filed against Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong.

“…I have a case against Kennedy Agyapong for a year and a half now. The judgement would have ended much earlier…but now the judgement is slated for June 26…,” Kweku Baako told host of Good Morning Ghana, Randy Abbey.

The case which has been in and out of court for over a year, according to Mr Baako has had quite interesting twists in the process, including the fact that the “the lawyer for the defendant (Kennedy Agyapong) did a lot of injustice to their witness.”

Kweku Baako also indicated that in the course of the legal process, the defendants called for an out of court settlement which he agreed to but no tangible consensus could be reached during that period thus, his decision to reject and continue court proceedings.

Kennedy Agyapong will be expected to cough up a whopping amount of GHC25 million as demands by Mr Baako as damages for defamation if he is found on the wrong side of the law.

In a panel discussion on Good Morning Ghana, the veteran journalist said if he could have engaged in a radio and TV banter with Kennedy Agyapong but the issue would not have been resolved because that’s his turf.

“Mr Kennedy Agyapong openly accused me of engaging in ‘galamsey’. He also said Anas and I conspired to blackmail the president and so when Anas went to the president for the Number 12 thing it was only I, Anas and the president, only the three of us and I had a secret camera which I used to film the president…,” Kweku Baako explained.

According to Mr Baako, the viciousness of the character assignation propelled by the Assin Central lawmaker caused him to test the provisions of the law.

In his opinion, partisan personalities who are fond of brutally defaming people must be taken through the full rigours of the law, henceforth.

“All these guys around who make too much noise, attack people…assassinate characters, we must subject them to that drill, we have no other choice. Some of them anticipate that you engage them on that radio and television, that’s endless…yes, that’s their turf. They have their fanatics behind them, you also have your fanatics behind you so it’s your word against my word. Radio and television debates nobody solves any matter there…,” he said.

Assin Central lawmaker in 2018, during the heat of the Number 12 expose and illegal mining debates defamed Kweku Baako on two separate occasions on radio and television.

Mr Baako, therefore, prayed the court to direct Mr Agyapong to “publish on three consecutive occasions on the same platform that he published the defamatory words, an unqualified retraction and an apology, with the same prominence as given to the issuance of the defamatory words. Other costs including legal fees and any others as this honourable court may deem fit.”

Jean Mensa must resign now – Odike

Akwasi Addae Odike, the Founder and Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP) is calling for the immediate resignation of Chairperson of Electoral Commission of Ghana, Mrs. Jean Mensafor her open love towards the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He lashed out at the Deputy Electoral Commissioners, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare saying he has “failed the credibility test in the performance of his duties as Deputy EC Boss.”

We call on Ghanaians to mobilize the masses to agitate for the removal of this bias character from the EC to safeguard our young and fragile democracy from the clutches of evil politicians.

Jean Mensa has shown that she is clearly incompetent with the ways she handles issues and must resign immediately to safe Ghanaians from chaos in the 2020 election,’’ Mr Akwasi Addae Odike told Reynold Agyemang on ‘Pae Mu Ka’ on Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7

“Ghana is a peace-loving nation and we have been acclaimed internationally for that. The EC should and must know that it is treading on dangerous grounds and that the earlier it steers clear of danger to avoid bloodshed, the better it will be for Ghana.”

According to Odike, the reasons adduced by the Commission for the compilation of a new electoral roll do not hold water and fly in the face of reason and logic.

He added that, the Jean Mensa-led administration was a looming disaster with a potential to reverse Ghana’s democratic gains.
