Government Bans Mallams & Fetish Priests from broadcasting on TV

Effective on Friday 1st May 2020, the national media authourity has issued a ban on mallams and fetish priest not to broadcast or advertise their work on televisionAccording to Kwadwo Oppong Nkrumah the information minister, the office of the president has written a letter to the national media commission to issue this ban.

This information was tapped from Justice Agyekum of Abusua 96.5 FM on Arabanko program at 27th April 2020.null

Before the invention of television, information was mainly gathered from libraries, newspapers and radios. However, these sources lacked visual stimulation through animated illustrations. Without the tediousness of distributing newspapers or having to travel to libraries relatively far from home, the television provides a convenient medium for citizens to receive information on current events. The efficiency of the television is evident in a large amount of information that can convey in a relatively shorter amount of time compared to reading the papers. From this, it can deduce that the main intention of the television is to educate, entertain and to inform the people about the happenings in the society. That is why television is found in our homes, offices and any other places just to serve individual interests.

However, the introduction of digital platform has turned these purposes in a different direction by some local television stations. The contemporary magic money flaunting by fetish priest on our local television screens is gradually gaining grounds in our system and it is very emotional.

Mahama’s running mate is from the Ashanti Region – Paul Adom-Otchere hints

John Dramani Mahama

Following the announcement that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to announce the running mate for its flag bearer, John Damani Mahama ahead of the 2020 elections in May, Television broadcaster, Paul Adom-Otchere has hinted that the person to be named hails from the Ashanti Region.

According to him, after several meetings between the NDC’s flagbearer and the founder of the party, Jerry John Rawlings, it has been decided that someone who comes from the Ashanti region would be selected.

This plan, Paul believes, when adhered will garner the support of the founder as well as help in the campaign towards the elections.

“We suspect that if J.J Rawlings is thinking about a running mate for John Mahama, giving that John Mahama comes from the North and he’s thinking about a running mate from the south, we think JJ will point him…directly to the Ashanti Region,” he said on his TV show Good Evening Ghana.

He asserted that the reason for the delay in the announcement of Mahama’s running mate was because both Mahama and Rawlings were in talks to select the ‘right’ person from the Ashanti region with integrity.

“We think John Mahama is having conversations with Rawlings and the conversations have not ended conclusively and that is why this conversation has delayed. We think that what is conclusive about their conversation is that they’ll go to Ashanti region, and the criteria that Rawlings has put on the table for the running mate that he would support is a criterion called integrity.”

Every health worker and staff at the Achimota Hospital is undergoing mandatory testing for COVID-19 after 10 food vendors and three taxicab drivers tested positive for the virus.

This has compelled the management of the hospital to direct all doctors, surgeons, nurses, and other health staff to as well as the hospital community to be tested mandatorily.

Sources within the hospital say a majority of the hospital staff buy food from the vendors while over 80 per cent of patients who visit the hospital use the taxi services.

It is not clear whether the hospital would be shut down to the public in the interim as the health authorities try to get a clearer picture of the extent of the infection among the people who frequent the compound as staff, food vendors or taxicab operators.

So far, Ghana has recorded 1,671 cases with eleven deaths and 188 recoveries, according to data from the Ghana Health Service.

22 new hospitals underway before 88 announced – Health Minister

Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, Health Minister

Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, says the Government was planning to construct 22 District Hospitals before the announcement of 88 new hospitals on Sunday, April 26 by the President.

Consequently, the President did not make the promise to construct the new district hospitals out of the vacuum, but based on a carefully laid out plan, the minister told journalists yesterday.

The Minister stated that the 22 District Hospitals were part of a projection made from the health sector’s allocation of the Sino-hydro facility between the Ghanaian and the Chinese governments.

“We had also selected to do 22 district hospitals even before the President’s announcement,” he explained.

“When we got an indication of allocation of the Sinohydro facility that the government was arranging to take, we listed 22 Districts without hospitals to begin construction,” he said.

The Minister gave the assurance that the government was committed to completing the ongoing health infrastructure in order to provide quality healthcare to the citizenry.

“No existing health project has been abandoned by the Akufo-Addo’s Government,” he emphasised, as he gave a breakdown of ongoing projects across the country.

Responding to critics who argued that the government could not raise funds for the interventions, the Minister said that though there was no expenditure to manage COVID-19 pandemic, the Government delved deep to provide funding for some COVID-19 response programmes.

Ghana’s confirmed cases for the respiratory disease have risen from 1,550 as of Sunday, April 26 to 1,671, thus, witnessing 121 new cases.

The deaths have also gone up by five, making it 16. However, there are 188 recoveries.

Coronavirus was also not in the budget – Health Minister to critics

Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, Minister of Health

The government has been subjected to critiques from the opposition party ever since president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced in his 8th address that plans are underway to begin the construction of 88 new district hospitals and six new regional hospitals within a year.

The opposition has questioned the feasibility of the project especially when the expenditure for the construction of the new 88 district hospitals was not captured in the 2020 budget statement.

Speaking at this afternoon’s press briefing held at the Ministry of Information, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu has questioned the claims of the NDC.

Touting the government’s capabilities, he noted that the onset of the COVID-19pandemic and reliefs was also not captured in the 2020 budget.

“I’m hearing nuisances on the radio, that it wasn’t in the budget but COVID-19 was not in the budget. That is correct, but all of a sudden we have managed to buy PPEs, we have managed to award a few contracts to some centers, we have managed to quarantine people, 1030 for two good weeks in good hotels in Accra. And we have paid for all, to the extent that one foreigner sits in his hotel room, using selfie telling his people back home that Ghana, Ghana.

“See where I’m living. A big 3-4 star hotel, to be paid for by the state. There’s a lot that we have done over the last few months. All these expenditures were not in the budget,” Mr. Agyemang-Manu explained.

Earlier on, Gabby Otchere Darko, a leading member of the NPP, in a post on his social media platforms on April 27, 2020, said President Akufo-Addo will find money to fund the construction of 88 hospitals in various districts across the country.

“Don’t be quick to doubt a government that had to find, so far, GHS18.55 billion to tackle a financial sector disaster, not of its doing, it did not expect, did not budget for, but knew it had to fix to save the economy and the livelihoods of millions of Ghanaians,” his post read.

Madagascar Kick start mass Production of coronavirus herbal medicine

Madagascar has commenced the production of the newly discovered coronavirus herbal medicine on a large scale to help meet the emerging demand.

The President of Madagascar, President Andry Rajoelina officially announced the discovery this traditional remedy for the deadly coronavirus which has defied almost every treatment and killed many people.

According to the President and medical experts, the local medicine which has been named Covid-Organics was administered to some people who had the virus and the result came out positive.

He further added that, this herbal tea which was developed by the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research (IMRA), gives results within a period of seven days.

Even though the World Health Organization refused to recognize or test the efficacy of this herbal medicine for general usage, the country has kick started production on large scale.null

According to the IMRA health authorities, Covid-Organics was derived from artemisia, a plant with proven efficacy in malaria treatment and other indigenous herbs.

The country has so far received solidarity and congratulatory messages from some African heads of state ranging from Macky Sall, President of Senegal who placed the first-ever order as well and Félix Tshisekedi, President of Democratic Republic of Congo. We expect more support from Africans who must also conduct their independent research on the efficacy and purchase it to save lives.
